At the heart of San Francisco’s design community is the Architecture + the City Festival, an annual, citywide celebration now in its 22nd year. Showcasing the city’s vibrant built environment, the festival features an inspiring lineup of tours, talks, film screenings, youth festival, and special programs including the DIALOGUES Conversation Series. Audiences are invited to explore architecture and design from multiple perspectives, fostering connection, curiosity, and creative exchange across the city.

“The Streets of San Francisco:” Screening Two Episodes of the Classic TV Series

These episodes, partially filmed on location in the TL, offer a rare window into the neighborhood’s visual and cultural landscape during a time of transformation and tension. See familiar streets through the lens of Hollywood storytelling, and reflect on how the media has shaped and reshaped the public perception of the Tenderloin over the decades.

Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association: Berkeley Mid-Century Modern House Tour

The Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association’s 2025 fall tour will present a group of twentieth-century mid-century modern houses built in the North Berkeley Hills. Featuring works designed by William Wurster, John Funk, Charles Warren Callister, John Ekin Dinwiddie, and other seminal Bay Area architects, this tour is the most comprehensive of its kind to date.

Opening to the general public on April 5, 2025, with member tickets already available, the exhibition promises an in-depth exploration of Asawa’s expansive artistic output, featuring over 300 artworks.

The property includes several office buildings, as well as plaza spaces, water features, and a rolling landscape, and created a lush setting for the urban San Francisco headquarters of Levi Strauss & Co.

Modernism on San Francisco's North Waterfront [Walking Tour]

Our October tour was so popular that we are doing a rerun! We are still keeping group sizes small, so reserve your ticket soon.

We'll explore the theme of Travel & Leisure by visiting the Streamline Moderne Aquatic Park Bathhouse, Fontana Towers, Ghirardelli Square, and the Cannery. A neighborhood that many local residents may pass over assuming it is just for tourists, the North Waterfront has an important history of Modern architecture and urbanism that shaped the future of the city. This tour is a chance to explore some fantastic Modern architecture and very interesting adaptive reuse projects by top tier Modernist architects, landscape architects, and graphic designers including Wurster, Bernardi & Emmons, Lawrence Halprin, Ruth Asawa, Bobbie Stauffacher Solomon, Joseph Esherick, Thomas Church, and Marget Larsen.

Tickets are limited in order to keep the group smaller.

The tour will primarily be outdoors. However, we will be entering the Maritime Museum for a brief period and masks will be required indoors.
