Explore the future through an architectural lens in Syd Mead: Future Pastime, featuring 16 original gouache paintings by the visionary artist and industrial designer whose work helped shape the worlds of Blade Runner, TRON, and Aliens. Presented at the Transamerica Pyramid Annex Gallery, the exhibition lets you look beyond Mead’s celebrated vehicles and discover the extraordinary environments they inhabit.
Mead imagined not simply futuristic buildings but entire worlds—places where architecture, transportation, technology, and everyday life form a coherent whole. His paintings invite us to consider how monumental structures, layered infrastructure, and leisure spaces might transform the city experience. Seen from this perspective, his work becomes a compelling exploration of architecture’s power to give physical form to our aspirations for the future.
