About the 19th International Docomomo Conference
The International Docomomo Conference (IDC) is a biennial event that began in Eindhoven, the Netherlands in 1990. It brings together members and colleagues from around the world for an in-depth exploration of global issues and new ideas about the future built environment as it relates to the Modern Movement. Conference attendees include thought leaders, practitioners, professionals, and academics from the US and around the world.
Join us in Los Angeles from March 17–22, 2026, to explore the pluralistic nature of the twentieth-century global modern movement and its diverse legacies. The conference will examine how climate, community, and creativity shaped the built environment, considering topics related to pre- and post-WWII modern traditions through the end of the century. It will highlight the enduring spirit of creativity in late twentieth-century architectural movements and everyday modern architecture, and investigate urban forms characterized by automobile dependence and sprawling growth. The conference will also focus on modern buildings and landscapes through the lens of the climate crisis, including adaptation, disaster preparedness, and response, and look at how diverse communities created, used, and continue to reshape modern environments.
