Coalition sends letter to San Francisco to retain and rehabilitate Embarcadero Plaza and the Vaillancourt Fountain

On Friday, September 19, 2025, Docomomo US/NOCA and a coalition of local, national, and international groups sent a letter to San Francisco Arts Commission, Recreation and Park Department, the Project Governance Team, and all associated city agencies and partners with a clear message: Embarcadero Plaza and the Vaillancourt Fountain must be retained and rehabilitated for present and future residents and visitors.

While some of our groups have discussed this project with you individually, we are writing to demonstrate the broad consensus of local, national, and international groups around a singular core principle: Embarcadero Plaza and the Vaillancourt Fountain must be retained and rehabilitated for present and future residents and visitors.

Our full letter is attached. In the interest of transparency, we are sharing this letter both publicly and with members of the media.

Please include this letter in the following public policy body meetings and public records, either for the date specified or the soonest scheduled. While not strictly required, individual confirmation from each policy body that the attached letter will be included would be greatly appreciated.
