Architectural Photography 101: Capture Modernism with Your Phone or Camera [Online Class]

  • Docomomo US / Northern California Chapter Online Zoom Class San Francisco, CA 94131 United States (map)

Join photographer Josh Weinberg, San Francisco-based urban photographer, photo educator, and tour guide, for a dynamic 60-minute Zoom workshop on how to see—and capture—architecture more powerfully through your lens.

In this interactive session, Josh will unpack what makes for great architectural photography by analyzing iconic and influential images—then show how you can apply the same compositional insights using just your phone or camera. Through practical, easy-to-implement techniques—from using wide angles and keeping lines straight to mastering light, framing, and patience—you’ll learn how to translate your own perspective into images that truly convey the spirit of modern design.

The one-hour class includes 40–45 minutes of presentation and 15–20 minutes of Q&A, including a live review of member-submitted photos for constructive feedback. Whether you’re an architect, historian, preservation advocate, or modernism enthusiast, this session will change how you look at buildings—and how you photograph them.
